Deftpower redefines EV charging with the TomTom Digital Cockpit

Although the popularity of EVs is soaring, there are still some barriers preventing people from giving up the comfort and familiarity of gas-powered cars. One of these is the complex task of charging.

In addition to all the navigation apps designed to help drivers find EV chargers, each e-mobility service provider (eMSP) offers their own app to facilitate charging and payment. It’s a disconnected, fragmented process, meaning that EV drivers often need multiple apps just to charge their cars – a task that, in itself, can be tricky without the right information around connector types, power levels and charging times.

If carmakers can simplify this process by consolidating everything into one end-to-end, easy-to-use system, they’ll not only remove a key obstacle for potential EV purchases, but vastly improve the overall driving experience.

This is where the Deftpower app comes in. Now integrated into the TomTom Digital Cockpit, it streamlines charging by providing EV drivers with location information for more than 300,000 charging points, in 35 countries, across Europe.

By using the touchscreen on their dashboard, drivers will see which charging spots and connector types are available – and to make life even easier, Deftpower’s automotive app monitors charging progress and integrates all transactions into one simple online payment system.

For carmakers, the Deftpower app is an opportunity to elevate the EV driving experience for their customers, while opening up potential revenue streams via charging subscriptions with their eMSP of choice.

With this automotive app, the charging process is conveniently consolidated to the vehicle's dash screen – from sourcing the correct charger to payment. Drivers will no longer need to switch between multiple apps – in fact, their phones won’t even need to leave their pockets at all.
