Veniam and TomTom

This platform features easy-to-use APIs and cloud services that manage a TomTom Digital Cockpit application's data, connections and security. It enables TomTom Digital Cockpit users to make the most out of all available networks (4G/5G, Wi-Fi, V2X, etc.) in order to improve download/upload speeds and reduce data transfer costs. With Veniam, vehicles can now transfer 10 times more data to and from the cloud at a cost 50% to 80% lower per gigabyte than current cell-reliant systems.

This means that users’ connected vehicle experience is optimized by ensuring the necessary applications are updated using the most appropriate data network. Immediate data requests can be handled using networks available on hand, be it LTE, V2X or another connection. At the same time, less timely updates can be offloaded to Wi-Fi networks, including both public networks and those private to the user. This is made possible by Veniam’s worldwide network of Wi-Fi partners who provide secure access to open Wi-Fi networks.

Not only is the network experience maximized, but the cost of data is also minimized by further splitting the data flows and associated connectivity bills for each application.

Due to the removal of the barriers posed by data costs, carmakers can equip their connected vehicles with the best-in-class infotainment functionality and experiment with new business models. Especially when it comes to navigation software, this means that maps, which are of utmost importance while driving, will be updated as often as possible to reflect recent changes in road conditions, ensuring safety and ease of navigation.

With Veniam joining the TomTom Digital Cockpit partner ecosystem, its Intelligent Networking Platform is now available as a system application for TomTom Digital Cockpit, opening a world of possibilities for developers and OEMs alike.
