Navigate with Ease: TomTom App for Real-Time Traffic | TomTom Newsroom

Driving works best when the road feels predictable. When information is clear, updates are real time, and you do not have to second guess what is ahead. The TomTom app is built around that idea. It brings together navigation, real time alerts, and live traffic insights in one place, designed to support everyday driving without adding complexity. Backed by decades of mapmaking expertise and shaped by millions of drivers, it is the latest step in continuously improving your driving experience. And the best part? It is free to use, with no subscription required.

Features that keep you moving

The TomTom app gives you the tools to move through traffic with confidence. Clear turn by turn navigation, accurate maps, and real time traffic updates help you stay on track and avoid delays. As conditions change, smart rerouting adapts automatically, while lane guidance keeps you in the right position at the right time. Speed camera alerts and live traffic insights add an extra layer of awareness, helping you anticipate what is ahead rather than react to it. Everything is designed to work together, giving you a clear, reliable view of the road without any unnecessary notifications.

To make driving even clearer, the app includes a RouteBarTM (Android only). This highly requested feature from drivers gives a simple overview of what is coming up on your route, including speed cameras, safety cameras, points of interest, key events, and your destination. Instead of focusing only on the next instructions, you see the road ahead at a glance.

After each drive, the experience continues with trip statistics (iOS only). You get a clear summary of your journey, including duration, distance, and time saved through real time traffic. It also highlights key moments such as speed camera warnings, Tom alerts, and traffic avoided.

Over time, the Driving Insights view builds a broader picture with weekly and long-term stats like total distance, warnings received, and overall impact, helping you understand how TomTom supports your everyday driving.

Not every journey needs full navigation. On familiar routes, staying aware of what is happening around you matters more.

That is where Tom, TomTom’s screen free road alert assistant, comes in. Tom connects directly to the TomTom app, which must be installed on your phone. Once connected, the app can run in the background while you use another navigation app or even when you are not actively navigating.

This is especially useful for EV drivers, who often rely on built-in navigation for charging stops and fast charger routing. While those systems are strong for EV guidance, they can be less reliable when it comes to road awareness like speed camera coverage and live alerts. The TomTom app complements them by continuing to deliver speed camera alerts, traffic updates, and hazard warnings in the background to the Tom device.

Powered by real drivers and built on trust

Behind the routes, alerts, and updates is the TOMmunity. Millions of drivers contribute every day, either passively through their journeys or actively by reporting hazards and changes on the road. This creates a live, constantly updated picture of real-world conditions, making it more timely, relevant, and dependable.

The TomTom app is free to use, with no subscriptions or hidden costs. It is designed to be accessible, giving drivers the tools they need without barriers. If you choose to use Tom, you pay for the device once, with no ongoing fees. The app continues to power the experience in the background. Your data stays private. It is anonymized instantly and used only to improve maps and alerts, not to track individuals or sell to advertisers. Simple, transparent, and built around trust.

One ecosystem

The TomTom app sits at the center of a connected driving experience, bringing together navigation, live data, and community insights. Tom is a screen free companion device that delivers road alerts without distraction. It connects directly to the TomTom app, which powers its data in real time. Together, Tom and the TOMmunity create a system that helps you stay aware, stay focused, and drive with confidence.

How TomTom navigation apps use your data

Data privacy is complex. For many, it seems it’s intentionally convoluted to understand. For every website we visit or app we download, we see the same question popping up on our screens: will you allow your data to be shared? But what does it actually mean? And what does it mean at TomTom?
