Hyundai and Kia vehicles in Europe now receive some of the market’s freshest map updates, delivered monthly through a strategic collaboration between Hyundai AutoEver (HAE) and TomTom. Since June 2025, HAE — Hyundai Motor Group’s mobility software division — has been providing structural map updates to their drivers at a frequency that outpaces most competing systems in the region.

As vehicles evolve toward increasingly automated and software-defined architectures, the demand for high-quality, continuously updated navigation data has become essential. This principle is central to TomTom Maps. TomTom’s AI-driven mapping platform processes real-world changes through a multi-source approach that brings together open data, inputs from Overture partners such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta, proprietary data, and geospatial data from sensor derived observations (SDO).

What distinguishes TomTom is the speed and granularity of its incremental updates: when lane geometry changes, signage shifts or new restrictions appear, TomTom’s production pipeline can integrate these updates within minutes. In addition, real-time traffic information refreshes every 30 seconds. This continuous flow keeps automotive-grade maps aligned with real-world conditions at all times.

Delivering fresher maps for Hyundai and Kia platforms

Together, TomTom and HAE are delivering monthly map updates to Hyundai and Kia’s latest infotainment and cockpit platforms across Europe. Each release incorporates essential road network changes, verified speed limits and high accuracy Points of Interest (POIs). This frequent cadence gives HAE’s platforms a meaningful advantage in map freshness compared with typical industry update cycles, ensuring that each distribution reflects the most current information available.

On top of it, TomTom real-time traffic and the latest speed camera service further strengthen HAE’s systems. Real time traffic provides up-to-the-minute visibility on flow and congestion, supporting more accurate guidance and ETA calculation. Speed camera alerts deliver timely, precise notifications that help maintain compliant driving behavior. Combined with TomTom’s continuously updated map data, these services reinforce features such as Highway Driving Assist and enhance the overall performance of Hyundai and Kia navigation platforms.

A partnership built around a living map

“TomTom’s maps aren’t just a static representation of the world: they’re living maps that update by the minute,” said Michael Harrell, SVP of Maps Engineering at TomTom. “With contributions flowing in from major technology partners, a global editing community, and millions of connected devices, TomTom Maps evolves continuously, reflecting the world as it changes.”

The collaboration between HAE and TomTom reflects a shared commitment to map quality, update speed and platform excellence. Together, the two teams are setting a new benchmark for onboard navigation in the automotive sector.
