In an inspiring display of teamwork and dedication, the National Network of Geography Students (RENEG) and the Mexican chapters of YouthMappers have joined forces to improve the community's safety and preparedness in Barra del Tordo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, in response to the impact of Hurricane Alberto.

The project, in partnership with TomTom, focused on filling in the gaps in the OSM map of Barra del Tordo. The team identified the roads and buildings in the area missing from their map. By adding crucial details to the OSM data, they aim to improve the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the OSM map for Barra del Tordo, enhancing the community's resilience to natural disasters.

Over 25 editors worked together to complete the entire grid in just 1.5 days, with 5,142 edits. The initiative showcases the potential for positive change when people unite for a common cause. Mexico YM
