TomTom is a firm believer that the future of tech — and the impact it has on the world — depends on the people building it. That’s why we invest in tech education and growth both inside the company and in local communities. From helping others discover tech to giving TomTom’ers more clarity and ease in expanding their careers, find out how we are creating inclusive opportunities for tech talent to grow and thrive at every stage of the journey.
Between AI, robotics and everything in between, it’s hard to ignore the startling pace of innovation. Yet with all the exciting tech, it can be easy to overlook an essential element in the world of technology: people. At TomTom, we recognize that there is no tech without the people behind it. Innovation is about making an impact, and that’s unlocked by having the right opportunities. Access to quality tech education is far from equal around the world. As a global tech company, we are motivated to help close that gap by ensuring that more people have the chance to work in tech and contribute to shaping our future. We’re committed to supporting tech education and career growth as tools for empowerment, inclusion and long-term progress. Our approach blends purpose-driven partnerships in communities with robust internal development programs — supporting everyone from teenagers in Amsterdam, to young girls in India, to seasoned engineers at TomTom.Growing careers at TomTom
Our culture of continuous learning is deeply embedded in how we operate internally, making sure that every TomTom’er has the tools and support they need to find, grow and expand a meaningful career. Here are a few of our top initiatives:Career frameworks and leadership development
We believe that clarity fuels progress. Our career framework gives employees a clear roadmap of expectations, skills and development paths at every level, so they know where they’re at and what’s needed to grow. For those who’ve shown strong leadership, our Accelerated Leadership Program (ALP), in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Judge Business School, offers hands-on development experiences to further build skills, confidence and capabilities.TomTom Academy
We are removing silos and centralizing our learning resources to meet TomTom’ers’ evolving needs. TomTom Academy brings together a curated mix of LinkedIn Learning, O’Reilly and in-house content with tailored suggestions. From data and design to product and leadership, the Academy acts as a personal launchpad for growth.Internal mobility programs
Growth at TomTom comes in many forms — from a role change to a short-term assignment or temporary rotation. Our internal mobility options empower TomTom’ers to explore new career paths without leaving the company. We make every transition easy to navigate with clear criteria and helpful tools. Just ask Wouter, who sharpened his understanding of application AI while learning Azure Databricks and Python, all within a three-month job rotation.
Supporting the next generation
We value integrity, and part of that means being the same TomTom to the inside and outside world. So, we show similar care to nurturing education and growth outside of TomTom — through external partnerships with purpose-led organizations. Let’s look at three.Codam Coding College
Codam is a free coding school for people from all backgrounds and age groups, with no prior education or diploma needed. Founded by TomTom Co-founder Corinne Vigreux, we have a unique opportunity to collaborate. With our Codam Fellows program, TomTom’ers offer guidance and mentorship to students, helping them build professional goals and learn more about working in tech. We also get to connect with students who we wouldn’t otherwise meet and offer them professional experience at TomTom.
Katalyst India
Katalyst India prepares young women from unprivileged backgrounds for leadership roles in the STEM field. The NGO supports 4,000+ students from low-income backgrounds and works with hundreds of colleges to provide them with quality education. TomTom is funding scholarships for some of these women to support their engineering careers, while we continue empowering more women from Katalyst to pursue new opportunities in the world of tech.TUMO
TUMO is a free educational program that puts teens in charge of their own learning. It has centers around the world serving more than 30,000 teens globally every week (43% of which are girls). We are proud to be a founding partner of the new TUMO center opening in Amsterdam, where the next generation of tech talent will get exciting opportunities to spark their interests and build valuable skills.United for the future of tech
Whether it’s a TomTom’er testing out new skills in a job rotation or a teenager discovering their passion for AI in a coding course, at TomTom we’re committed to investing in the people behind the future of tech. We believe that access to education, opportunities and support empowers people to make their impact with a purpose. Through our internal and external initiatives, we’re proud to be creating a loop of growth, impact and innovation — that starts in our communities, strengthens in our teams and radiates outward to shape the broader ecosystem.
