For truck drivers and fleet managers, even minimal cost savings per journey can add up to a significant amount throughout the year. Wanting to help customers reduce fuel consumption and emissions and save money, Daimler turned to TomTom and Bosch for Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) functionality for its new-generation Mercedes-Benz Actros truck. A smart cruise control, PPC is an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) for commercial vehicles, proactively controlling the engine, brakes and automated transmission.
The highly accurate, detailed TomTom ADAS Map enhances PPC by sharing critical road information that enables the vehicle’s powertrain to operate more efficiently. Our map knows the surrounding topography, curvature, truck-specific speed limits and traffic signs. Equipped with PPC and the TomTom ADAS Map, the Mercedes-Benz Actros truck anticipates the road ahead, controlling the powertrain to deliver the most fuel-efficient performance. The resulting efficiency is proven to reduce fuel consumption by 5% per vehicle, per year. This translates to significant cost – and emissions – savings.
