Staff Engineer I - ADAS

    As a Staff I engineer in ADAS you will disambiguate, design and lead the delivery of HD map features leveraging ML algorithms, at scale. As part of that you will devise in partnership with the Engineering Manager and Director of technical strategy, and you will partner with our PM and Operations stakeholders to define priorities, scope work and focus your efforts where they have the most impact, you will work very closely with map data to relentlessly pursue the highest quality, and you will design, asses and improve data pipelines and workflows that deliver our features with minimal human involvement. You will also coach and train other engineers in the team, and multiply your skills. You are not starting from zero, there are existing algorithms and pipelines, but you will need to steer the team from a proof of concept to a stable pipeline that produces results at production quality, consistently. We are looking for a Staff engineer skillful in dealing with ambiguity, partnering with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and experienced with engineering reliable systems. We would love it if you also have experience working with data pipelines, and in particular with DataBricks, or experience working to improve data quality and performing both metric-based and anecdote-based data analysis and root causing.

    What you will do:
    • Solve complex problems at scale cross teams, owning the software architecture and technical designs
    • Provide technical leadership and expertise, acting as a force multiplier
    • Enable your team for success through interaction with the technical community at an organization level
    • Drive the technical decisions to improve engineering, test, and operational excellence best practices
    • Participate to all phases of the project lifecycle – gathering requirements, designing solutions, building new interfaces, integration with existing architectures, development, and testing code
    • Build scalable, highly available and resilient applications by utilizing the optimal cloud technologies and programming languages and frameworks that best suit your use cases
    • Support hiring for team vacancies, and investments into team and product health

    What you will need:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or 8+ years of equivalent experience in at least one modern programming language, including Java
    • Proven ability to learn new languages and technologies, and lead others in acquiring new skills
    • Comfortable with written and/or verbal communication in English
    • Strong Computer Science and development fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.
    • Strong knowledge and practice of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
    • Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility trade-offs
    • Experience building scalable, distributed, production software systems with an understanding of design for performance and reliability
    • Experience working with data processing tools/frameworks and cloud technologies

    Meet your team

    We are the ADAS & ADS Product Unit, leading the production of TomTom’s HD maps and ADAS technology.
    In a diverse team of applied scientists, engineers, data scientists, and more, equipped with a broad array of expertise, you’ll collaborate on groundbreaking location-based technologies and applications.
    More specifically, you’ll be at the forefront of the creation of advanced HD maps. You’ll also help update these in real-time, ensuring our maps are pushing the world forward instantly. These maps will then go on to empower the largest car manufacturers, transportation giants, and major tech companies around the world.
