    What you’ll do

You will be responsible for driving the UX research for both Automotive and Enterprise (B2B) clients, with a primary focus on the US market. This position is based in the Detroit office (hybrid work-from-home model), where you’ll work with a UX Designer and several Product Managers. You’ll be communicating often with the larger UX team in Europe and external customers in the US; some travel is expected for team events, research activities, and client collaborations.

    Some core activities include:

    • Align with stakeholders in the US and NL to proactively identify areas that require exploration and drive the research agenda, with a focus to uncover unmet user needs in the US market.
    • Work closely with automotive client teams and in-house product teams of UX Designers, Engineers, Architects, and Product Management to discover and deliver new products, features, and services.
    • Establish and grow our collaborative research and development efforts with external customers, including automotive and B2B clients.
    • Conduct expert reviews and drive tests with our products to improve our knowledge of US drivers; communicate these insights to the UX team in Europe and external clients.
    • Coordinate research activities, such as recruiting participants, organizing test cars, and preparing test materials (e.g., driving simulator, prototypes, interview scripts).
    • Organize workshops and design sprints to make user insights tangible.
    • Connect quantitative and qualitative user insights to create data-driven solutions.
    • Distill new insights from the user research, define practical improvements, and find the best ways to convince stakeholders to act upon findings.
    • Demonstrate TomTom’s commitment to the US and automotive markets to our customers.
    • Think holistically about the end-to-end TomTom experience and inspire others to do so.
    What you’ll need

You are passionate about designing and executing user research and usability testing, sharing findings/recommendations, and contributing to future car solutions. You naturally put user needs first, while taking client’s requirements into account. You can present and share your work in a compelling and convincing way to diverse stakeholders. You have a strong will to create easy-to-use, delightful products. You love iterating UX designs together with designers to find the best possible user experience. You are a self-starter, able to work closely with project managers and clients to identify UX research needs. You feel comfortable collaborating in and coordinating large international research projects. You’re proactive, and a great team player.

To be successful as a Senior UX Researcher, this is the kind of profile we have in mind:

    • 5+ years of industry experience in designing and/or researching mobile applications, car HMI, or physical devices.
    • An advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Ethnography, Industrial Design, or related discipline.
    • In-depth experience with the whole package of qualitative and quantitative user research methods, such as usability tests, contextual interviews, observational studies, drive tests, survey design, leading workshops, etc.
    • Knowledge of various UX and collaboration tools.
    • A good understanding of statistics and analytics (knowledge of R for analysis is a plus).
    • Strong interpersonal skills: present, align, communicate, collaborate, engage, convince…
    • Creative problem solver, team player, self-motivated, and dedicated to excellence.
    • Solid time-management and prioritization skills with the ability to run simultaneous projects that are often time-sensitive.
    • Pragmatism: balance research investment depending on user and/or business impact.
    • Flexible work hours and comfortable working with geographically distributed teams (e.g., US, Europe, Taiwan); willing to travel to Amsterdam for UX team meetings a few times a year and within the US for market testing.

We’re not looking for a unicorn, but if you have experience/ affinity with one (or more ) of the below you’ve definitely got our interest:

    • UX research for the automotive industry and/or B2B customers.
    • Experience with working with teams in different time zones.
