    What you’ll do

    If you choose to accept this mission, you will influence and decide on how TomTom’s API landscape will ideally look like, technically, and from a customer point of view.

    The API architect should ensure that API customer's adoption of TomTom's online service APIs is as easy and smooth as possible​. The API architect is responsible for the continuous improvement process to standardize and harmonize API specification, API documentation, and API SDKs​, and should promote, evangelize, and monitor compliance of product APIs with API standards​.

    • Collaborate with stakeholders including product management and the development teams in identifying architecture improvement opportunities and defining quality requirements 

    • Contribute to the vision and quality goals of TomTom's API landscape

    • Lead the (API) definition of non-functional requirements for common API functionality such as authentication, authorization, versioning, metering, observability.

    • Establish continuous improvement process to standardize and harmonize API specification, API documentation, and API SDKs

    • Promote, evangelize, and monitor compliance of product APIs with API standards

    • Outside-in view on TomTom's offered APIs

    • Introduce review process for API design and implementation

    • Determine and maintain guidelines on API design

    • Contribute to the technical roadmap of API management platform

    What you’ll need

    • Proven experience of at least 5 years in software architecture

    • Excellent knowledge of modern API development and design practices and cloud technologies

    • Experience and knowledge on API-standards such as REST, gRPC, and GraphQL

    • Ability to communicate with stakeholders and present, discuss and improve system capabilities and features

    • Excellent collaboration & technical leadership skills; with both internal and external stakeholders

    • Acting as a subject-matter-expert within the department and participate in knowledge sharing with other product units

    • Familiar with SRE practices, and understanding of observability, SLOs/SLIs

    • Ability to rationalize and evaluate tradeoffs on quality goals

    • Good abstraction skills and keep the high-level overview, yet you are not afraid to dig into the details, analyze, and solve issues when needed

    Nice to have 

    • Experience with designing reporting and billing 

    Meet your team 

    We’re API Management, a team within Service Platform. We are responsible for managing the front door for TomTom’s online products and hence are key to customer experience. You will be a member of the team providing reporting and analytics on API products. These insights are used throughout TomTom by product teams, finance and business units. We are a five people team based in Amsterdam consisting out of data engineers and reporting analytics.
