We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join our Maps Analytics team in Madrid! As a Expert Software Engineer with passion for data, you will build the tools that will allow us to drive our map strategy based on empirical data and be a key player in the way this information is shared with diverse map production units.

Passionate about writing efficient, elegant, and clean code, and you have an insane passion for data-related programming. You love generating code that is placed in production and makes an impact on the company’s history. You will be part of agile unit and will be collaborating with engineers, data scientists, map and location experts and fellow software and data engineers.

What you’ll do 

  • Work in a company promoting innovative and modern technologies – Java 8/Python, Continuous Deployment (Docker, Terraform, Azure), Jenkins Pipelines, Cloud Computing, Hadoop, Kibana & Elastic Search
  • High code quality and engineering standards – Sonar, Pull Requests, Pair Programming, TDD, Test Automation, Continuous Integration
  • We are not outsourcing company – we decide what we do and how we do it
  • Help to make location content best-in-class by advocating for and implementing changes to technology, process, tools, and systems.
  • Contribute to driving our strategy based on insights obtained from tools you will be designing and contributing. That’ll imply manipulating data from a huge variety of sources: system logs, satellite imagery, vertical imagery, street level imagery, GPS traces, etc. individually and by fusing several combinations of these sources 
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy 
  • Collaborate with many teams from diverse backgrounds (e.g., data scientists, product managers, …) to bring synergy, with tools a communications channels that ensure transparency and knowledge sharing cross the company
  • Mentor/Coach/Guide team members aspire to become a Software/Data Engineer 
  • Productionizing, deploying, testing, and monitoring of machine learning models including exposing them as service
  • Dedicate part of your weekly schedule on research and development to acquire new skills, run your own experiments, …
  • Work in a mostly-remote and flexible way that allows you find the perfect work-life balance

What you’ll need 

  • Your experience:
    • Bachelor’s/Masters/PHD in Computer science, Telecommunications, Mathematics, or equivalent field and must have min. 6+ years of overall experience 
    • 4+ years of experience in Software Development and/or Data Engineering
    • Experience leading teams of Software/Data Engineers
  • Your soft skills:
    • Good communications skills in English
    • Ability to analyze problems and decompose them into logical parts
    • Strong problem-solving skills 
  • To be team-oriented – to be able to communicate with other team members, express doubts, provide and accept constructive feedback
  • To be passionate about programming, always eager to learn and improve your skills
  •  Your hard skills:
    • Knowledge of modern programming technologies and approaches (OOP, Design Patterns, SOLID principles, TDD, Service Oriented Architecture etc.)
    • Experience in at least one object-oriented language – preferably Java or Python
    • Experience in Big Data and supporting technologies (Spark, HBase, Hadoop, DataBricks, SnowFlake)
    • Strong level of proficiency in Python, Unix/Linux (bash scripting), and SQL/NoSQL 
  • As a plus:
    • Interest in or experience with data science / machine learning
    • Experience in deploying trained models for high scalability on public cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) using Dockers/Kubernetes 
    • Some GIS background is welcome but is not an absolute must. You will learn it anyway during daily work.
    • Knowledge and experience on Webscrapping (e.g., scrapy, selenium)
    • Reporting and dashboarding tools: PowerBI, Tableau, R Shiny, Dash, …

Part of TomTom’s Location Technology Products technical unit, the Maps product unit is comprised of over 2,000 people in 40 countries – all driven to deliver the most up-to-date, accurate and detailed maps for the hundreds of millions of people using TomTom maps around the world. Joining this product unit, you can help continuously innovate our map-making processes, create a real-time closed loop between detected changes in the real world and the users’ map, and build maps that will enable the future of autonomous driving. 

Within Maps product unit, the Maps Analytics team is focused on creating efficient ways to state our map quality and drive insights to the map production teams that help the company evolve in a smart way.
