To work correctly, TomTom software uses location information from your device.
Some features of TomTom software have to send this location information to TomTom. The software also sends information that tells us your MyTomTom account name, identifies your device, tells us how you use the software and includes information you enter.
Some features will also allow you to send information, including your location and who you are to others such as friends, family, or people in your contacts or on social media.
We need your permission before we can use your information and enable these features.
We use the information so we can do the following:
• Send information to your device that is relevant to where you are.
• Send information that you choose to send about yourself or your location when using a specific feature.
• Improve the quality of our products and services, but only after we have made sure the information cannot be linked back to you.
The information is sent using the internet. Depending on your device, it can use its own connection, the connection provided by a smartphone or your computer's internet connection when you attach your device to it. If an internet connection is not available, the information is stored securely on your device to be uploaded later.
You can choose to send information or stop sending information at any time using the settings or preferences in the TomTom software on your device. If information is stored on your device it is deleted, when you choose to stop sending information to TomTom.
Within 24 hours of you shutting down your device or app, TomTom automatically and irreversibly destroys the data that would allow you or your device to be identified from the location data we received.
For Traffic, SpeedCameras, Danger Zones and Weather we delete the information within 20 minutes after you have stopped using the service by shutting down your device or app. We do not know where you have been and cannot tell anyone else, even if we somehow were forced to.
This, now anonymous, information is used to improve TomTom's products and services, such as TomTom maps, Traffic, products based on traffic patterns and average speeds driven, and for search queries to inform businesses how well-received their information is. These products and services are also used by government agencies and businesses.
In order to create reports on the number of users using TomTom Places Local Search and to determine the general frequency of use, TomTom separately stores information about when your device accessed TomTom Places Local Search for one year.
In choosing to provide TomTom with information you are helping to make driving better, specifically by improving maps, traffic flows and reducing congestion. Thank you.
We promise not to give anyone else access to the information that we collect or use it for any other purpose, unless explicitly and lawfully ordered to do so following due legal process.

• Speed Cameras
• Danger Zones
• Local Search
• Points of Interest
• Fuel/Charging locations
• Map Share
• Real-time maps
If you subscribe to and use TomTom services, the TomTom software sends information to TomTom, including the following:
• Details that identify your device and your MyTomTom account name
• For Traffic, Speed Cameras and Danger Zones: details about routes and locations, which are continuously collected and sent at regular intervals
• For Weather, Fuel/Charging locations and Parking: your location or the location you enter
• For search queries: your location or the location you enter, the query and how you use it
• For Speed Camera and Danger Zones: any report you enter
• For Map Share: any report you enter
• For real-time maps: your location
We need your permission to collect and use your information. If you do not give us your permission, no information is sent to TomTom, but you won't be able to use TomTom services because we need to know your location to be able to return the information and search results relevant to where you are. We also use the information to improve the quality of our services, but only after we have made sure it cannot be linked back to you in any way.
Note: The length or end date of your service subscription does not change if you do not allow your information to be sent.
When you subscribe to the TomTom Speed Cameras and Danger Zones services you can report speed camera and danger zone locations.
Your reports, which include location information, are sent to TomTom and associated with your device or MyTomTom account, as long as this account exists. TomTom then uses this information to improve its Speed Cameras and Danger Zones services.
MyDrive saves your data at TomTom. Your data includes settings, preferences, favourite locations, and destinations you have planned routes to. When you enable MyDrive, this data is automatically made available to all devices and apps you have authorised. Only devices and apps you authorise for MyDrive, and other persons you have authorised to share data with, have access to your data. To authorise the devices or apps you want to use with MyDrive, log in with your MyTomTom account or an account from a supported provider. MyDrive will retain a reference to all of your devices and apps associated with your MyTomTom account. MyDrive does not have access to the password of your account.
When you disable MyDrive on a device or app, changes in your data will no longer be synchronised to that device or app. The data in MyDrive will remain available via MyDrive until you explicitly delete it, for example via the TomTom website or using devices and apps that support deletion.
Only if you give us your permission and after we have made sure that it is not linked to you in any way, we at TomTom also use the information from your account to improve our products and services. These products and services are also used by government agencies and businesses. You can give and withdraw your permission at any time by changing the settings or preferences in the TomTom software on your device.

In addition to storing your data with MyDrive, TomTom keeps a record of how the devices and apps you authorised accessed MyDrive for a period of 3 months. This information is used to create aggregated usage statistics and for technical diagnostics purposes.
Your data is stored in the EU, and is subject to European data protection laws. TomTom applies security methods based on industry standards to protect your data against unauthorised access, while stored with MyDrive and while being sent to and retrieved from your devices and apps.
We will not to give anyone else access to your MyDrive data from or use it for any other purpose, unless explicitly and lawfully ordered to do so following due legal process.
Using Map Share you are able to make map corrections and report map errors. Your corrections, which include location information, are sent to TomTom and associated with your device or MyTomTom account, as long as this account exists. TomTom uses these reports to improve TomTom maps.

Roads change every day. To keep TomTom maps fresh, we collect information about these changes via various sources. One of these sources are the TomTom Mobile Mapping VANs. These vehicles are equipped with 360 degree camera’s, highly accurate GPS-receivers and other sensor technologies to gather information.
TomTom only uses the imagery and the other information we capture (such as data related to shapes of roads and buildings) for our legitimate interest to improve TomTom maps. In the case imagery is being transferred to countries outside the European Union, TomTom protects the imagery in the best possible way via official safeguards such as EU model contracts. TomTom deletes the imagery when it’s no longer needed for TomTom map productions and improvements. We do not publish any of the imagery and other information online or make it available elsewhere. Some of the imagery is made available to third parties under a license contract similarly restricting use and prohibiting publishing.
TomTom or its service partner blur elements in the imagery that could lead to recognition of individuals (such as faces and license plates) before making it available to these third parties. TomTom uses secured data transfer methods to make the imagery available to contracted third parties upon their specific request. These third parties typically use the imagery for their own internal business purposes such as road construction or road maintenance.

You should be aware that while you use your mobile phone to connect your device to the internet, your mobile phone may run operating system software or other apps, or use communication networks, which collect, transmit or store personal and location information. TomTom has no influence over this. For more details refer to the information and settings provided by your mobile operator and the vendors of your device and apps.
When switched on, your device uses a mobile network that inherently contains location information about your device. By law, the network operator may be required to retain this location and other information for law enforcement purposes and TomTom has no influence over this.
