Discover Germany’s hidden treasure in the Baltic SeaDiscover this route
With its picture-perfect chalk cliffs, sleepy hamlets and extraordinary flora and fauna Rügen Island is often referred to as “the oasis of the Baltic Sea”. Take the enormous bridge from the Hanseatic city of Stralsund and allow this scenic road trip to take you on a loop around this hidden gem.
The eastern shore of the island is known for its white-sand beaches and towering white cliffs rising out of the sea. Before exploring the coastline visit the wonderful Granitz Hunting Lodge that is famous for its bedazzling spiral staircase. The 574 km-long coastline of the island is sprawled with secluded beaches, however, the beach of Sellin might be a great place for you to try out the iconic roofed wicker beach chairs. Tranquility and natural beauty prevail in Jasmund National Park situated in the northeast of the island. Park your car and take a hike through the magnificent beech forest to the Stubbenkammer. Take in the magical panoramas from King’s Chair, the highest chalk cliff of the island at 118 m. above the sea before exploring the other side of the island on your way back to Stralsund.
