Bonaventure Island
  • Gaspé, Canada, North America
  • 9.5 km

Bonaventure is a small island in the St. Lawrence Gulf, right across the town of Percé. After being used by farmers, it was declared a bird sanctuary in 1971 and all human inhabitants where evicted in the following years. Today it's one of Canada's most beautiful national parks, and home to almost 300 species of birds, including a colony of over 40,000 pairs of Northern Gannets. During the day, it is easily accessible from Percé by boat.

The trail takes you around the island on a very easy path. It crosses the colony of Northern Gannets, continues to the coast where plenty of sea lions can be observed, and returns to the pier through the former settlement area, which is now being taken back by nature.
