Zion National Park in Utah is one of the most spectacular places to visit the Colorado Plateau. It features several famous hiking areas, such as the Zion Canyon, and one of the most unusual hiking trails in the world: The Narrows. Here, the Virgin River has cut deeply into the sandstone, forming a narrow path for the river with up to 150 m high walls on either side. Hiking, or rather wading, through the river on a hot day is truly memorable. A few hikers are lucky enough to secure one of the rare permits for the downstream two-day through-hike, but most visitors simply walk upstream from the Temple of Sinawava bus station as far as they can get, and return along the same way. This trail is such a trip, turning around at Wall Street, where the river is narrow, waist-deep, and wall-to-wall.
