Heart rate is the foundation of fit, giving you unquestionable insight into your overall fitness level. That makes tracking your heart rate essential. TomTom was one of the first to introduce optical heart rate fitness monitoring, and our technology continues to lead.
Working harder doesn’t always equal better results. It depends on what you want to achieve – burn fat? Build endurance? Get faster? Gain power? Be fitter? Our five heart rate zones are designed to show you what impact your workouts deliver. For best results, aim to vary your intensity every workout.
Recover faster for peak fitness
Your heart rate drops faster after exercise when you’re fit. The faster it falls, the fitter you are. We show you your recovery level to give you an extra layer of heart-driven, fitness-boosting insight.

Take your fitness to the max
What’s ‘the max’? It’s different for everybody. Based on your body’s maximum oxygen consumption, or VO2max, heart rate analysis is an easy way to see how fit you really are. Then you can push harder and rest assured that you’re making real fitness progress.
Measuring how fast your heart beats during exercise doesn’t give an easy-to-understand baseline of your fitness. Resting heart rate does. Most adults average 60–80 bpm, while the well-trained rest in the sweet spot: between 40–60 bpm.
