Northwest of Durban, in the heart of the KwaZulu Nata’s, the Midlands Meander winds through a typical green countryside between Pietermaritzburg and the Drakensberg.

When local potters, weavers, leather workers, metal workers, cheese makers, herb growers and cheese makers joined forces with other artists the Midlands Meander became known as the ‘arts-and-crafts-route’. Besides the astonishing beauty of picturesque landscapes and magnificent views, this area is sprawled with places to eat, sleep, shop and play. The route encompasses nature reserves, lakes and mountains, little villages and creative outlets. The Midlands Meander offers splendid opportunities for active interaction with nature. From towering mountains to lush green forests, plenty of outdoors activities are offered along the road.
