Much of the southwest of Tasmania is pure wilderness. A place where wild rivers, rainforests and glacially carved mountains prevail. This route takes you through Cradle Mountain-Lake Clair National Park and Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, both part of Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

The journey starts in the alpine landscapes around Cradle Mountain, where glimpses of the dramatic cliffs enrich the scenery. Just before Queenstown the landscapes change to red bare hills and signs of mining appear. The scenic road continues to the magnificent Lake Clair. Enjoy some of Australia’s most stunning parts, and take enough time to explore the temperate rainforests, little mining towns, beaches and lakes that you will pass along the way.
