This is arguably one of the best rides in New Zealand.
Start in Whakatane, the roads on the cape are in excellent condition with many sweeping and tighter bends, very low level of traffic, except in Dec/Jan holidays and huge ocean views. At the top of the peninsula there is a short excursion to the beautiful Eastern cape.
You can return via Waioeka Gorge to make a loop from either city, but the coastal route is more fun. Fuel in Omaio only so gas up in the city and enjoy.
