What's new in 2.24:
  • Added support for PocketPC 2003
  • Improved SiRF Binary support (if combined with GPS driver 2.07)
  • Fixed a possible application "freeze" at start-up on old HP Jornada (e.g. pre-2002 Jornada 450)
  • Fixed possible application "freezes" on Pocket Loox when using the "find" option
  • Fixed possible application "freezes" on Toshiba 330/350
What's new in 2.22:

Easier to operate
The TomTom Navigator menu system has been simplified even further, to a clearer, full-screen version with larger icons and bold texts. The "more..." button in the bottom right corner now cycles through three pages. The whole bottom bar now works like a "cancel" button, closing the menu and reverting to the Navigation View.

NEW:

Iconic versions of menu options
Among other things, this new three-page system allows us to provide the following finger-operated options, which until now where only available through the pen-operated menu:
Exit Application - allows you to instantly exit TomTom Navigator (and its GPS driver)
Switch map - Allows you to load another road map
Demonstrate Route - Allows you to view a simulation of a car driving the currently planned route

New Navigator FIND option
A powerful new feature introduced in this version is the new finger-operable FIND system:
Find...
It allows you to find an address, waypoint, favourite, points of interes or recent destination and then do something with it:

Add as favourite - Turn the location into a favourite
Edit favourite - edit an existing favourite
Add as point of interest - Turn the location into a point of interest
Edit point of interest - edit an existing self-made point of interest
Find nearby points of interest - Find points of interest that are near the location you have just found
Set as departure - Depart from this location. In combination with the "navigate to" option, this option allows you to plan routes between any two locations without needing to switch to the map view. (Note: this option is not available if you have a GPS fix)
Reset GPS for this location - Inform your GPS hardware that you are near this position - certain GPS hardware can use this information to find a satellite fix much faster. Useful if you have just travelled to another country or haven't used your GPS for a few weeks.

Extra road-block control
When you tell TomTom Navigator that your route is blocked, you can now (at the cost of an extra tap of your finger) also indicate how long a stretch appears blocked.

Improved Contacts integration
Based on extensive research of user feedback, we have improved our address-recognition software to correctly recognize even more addresses and ways of representing addresses. Among other things, our geocoding routines now also tries to take into account the available postal and zip code information. Furthermore, the user interface for contacts integration has been streamlined.

New advanced properties
Some more controls have been added to the "advanced" section, e.g. to allow you to re-arrange the three menu pages to your liking. A new preference has been added called "Move E-roads to the back". If a major road has more than one road number, the European name gets precedence over the (more local) alternative names. If you are more familiar with the local alternatives - or if you mostly travel in areas where the local alternatives are better represented on the road signs - you can use this new preference to control the display of roads.
Note: this advanced option is only availble for European maps.

MapView control to show/hide POI
The "details" panel in the Map View now offers a checkbox to quickly show or hide POI.

Improved Address Finder
In order to make address input even easier, our address-finder has been extended with a "three-layer" memory. First of all, when you are asked to specify a city, you will initially be presented with the list of the city names that you have most recently entered. Similarly, within a city, you will initially be presented with the streets that you have most recently searched for within that city. And finally, of course, the housenumber or intersection that was most recently entered for that street will be retrieved for you.

US English support
The application is now available in yet another language, called "US English", where you’ll find automobiles, favorites, rotaries and gas, instead of cars, favourites, roundabouts and petrol.

Night color styles
You could already select between different map color styles. Now, you can also select between different night color styles. The original ("Astra") is still the default, but the preferences now also allow you to select "Africa" or "Antarctica".

"Antarctica"          "Africa"

American color styles
The new color style "America" provides a way of coloring maps, instructions and status indicators that is perceived as "natural" in the U.S.A. TomTom Navigator has also been extended with other U.S.A.-related graphics, such as interstate roadnumber shields and american-style variants of the Point of Interest symbols.

Better routes
Several improvements and "tweaks" were made to the route planning algorithm in order to produce even better routes. The calculation of alternatives, and the algorithms for avoiding highways and roadblocks, has also been improved further.

Even better 3D display
Extensive field tests have lead to many small "tweaks" to the 3D display. For example, auto-zooming heuristics have been improved to provide even more "traffic situation overview" when zooming in, and to preserve more detail when zooming out.

Improved settings storage
The way preferences and favourites are preserved has been changed in two important ways:
  • All settings will now be stored in "\My Documents\TomTom Navigator Settings" (unless no "My Documents" folder can be found). In this place they can also be backed up automatically whenever you synchronise.
  • Extra software checks allow TomTom Navigator to survive complete or partial damage to its settings files (something that is caused by faulty hardware but can cause serious software problems, including "out of memory" errors, the infinite hourglass, and crashes at start-up)
Resolved support issues
Apart from the improvements mentioned above, many issues that have been reported to our support department have been taken care of since the release of version 2.0. These are the most noteworthy:
  • An improvement was made to better handle situation where a "keep on the left lane" indicator must be combined with a "keep on the right lane" route arrow inside a highway bend.
  • a problem was fixed in handling roadblocks very close to the final destination
  • An extra check was added to assure that the sound volume is restored to the original volume when the application exits
  • "Warm GPS reset" management has been improved, preventing unnecessary GPS re-initialization (for example, after you disconnect your PocketPC for a few minutes)
  • The GPS driver, seperate but closely integrated with the TomTom Navigator application, has also been improved in many ways since its version 2.0 release. Among other things, support was added for the new TomTom Wireless GPS (Bluetooth)
  • A problem was fixed that could interfere with the Media Player on XDA devices (or other devices with less than four programmable hardware buttons)
  • A problem was fixed that prevented certain locations from being turned into favourites or destinations, or to navigate to them if they were turned into "home" or favourite.
  • More POI databases can now be "plugged in". Furthermore, an explicit warning is given if there are too many plugged-in POI databases.
  • A problem was fixed that could cause the system to become unstable. Especially on devices with the latest ROM revisions, such as the Compaq Ipaq 3970 or the Dell Axim, the application could freeze or even silently exit.
  • A problem was fixed that could occur when asking the Contact application to navigate to a housenumber that is unreachable by car.
