TomTom and AA join forces to offer quick and simple travel information for stress free driving

Johannesburg, 04 September 2008. TomTom, the world’s leading portable navigation provider, today announces it is partnering with the Automobile Association (AA), South Africa’s leader in motoring and touring. Combining TomTom’s superior route guidance information with the value-add travel services offered by the AA, drivers across the country will soon benefit from extensive tourist information when planning their trip or while on the go.

TomTom and the AA will be working closely together to make life easier for local and international tourists travelling around South Africa. Users will have easy access to a wide range of AA specific locations including restaurants, AA quality assured accommodation, shopping malls, petrol stations and AA outlets on the way, making travelling less stressful and better planned. From this summer, they can either download the information for free via TomTom HOME or purchase a TomTom device with extensive AA content, exclusively from AA stores.

Furthermore, TomTom will be able to provide customers with more safety features than any other navigation device through the inclusion of AA’s extensive safety and roadside assistance data. Information such as the way to the nearest hospital, car maintenance information and first aid instructions, have been added to TomTom’s existing Safety Menu, providing drivers with helpful safety information wherever they go.

“The partnership between the AA and TomTom is in-line with our philosophy of offering users quick, easy and safe access to up-to-date and relevant travel information,” says Joost Jetten, Regional Manager TomTom South Africa. “The partnership between TomTom and the AA brings the benefits of the world’s leading portable navigation solutions provider coupled with the full spectrum of the AA’s services to the TomTom at the touch of a button.”

“TomTom is a well-established international brand,” says Geoff Elske, Divisional Manager of Travel for the AA. “It is for these reasons that we are excited about announcing TomTom as the preferred navigation device for the AA and the South African traveller.”
