Johannesburg, 14 July 2008. TomTom, the world’s leading portable navigation provider, today announces its partnership with Rectron, a leading multimedia distributor in South Africa to further establish the TomTom brand and develop distribution and market share in South Africa.

“We are confident that we have found the right partner to help us expand our distribution network and set up the required level of in-store presence to further grow TomTom in South Africa”, says Joost Jetten, Regional Manager South Africa & Middle East.

"The fact that TomTom has opened a local office demonstrates their commitment and dedication to giving the brand the recognition and success it deserves to have in South Africa," adds Zandre Rudolf, Rectron Sales Director in South Africa. "From Rectron’s side - with our market knowledge, distribution infrastructure and channel breadth, we believe that we can add a lot of value to TomTom as a company and a brand, enabling TomTom to achieve the leading position in South Africa, which it already has in the rest of the world”

TomTom also announces today it is bringing the latest models of its award-winning car navigation product offering - the new TomTom ONE and TomTom XL range to South Africa. The new TomTom ONE and TomTom XL models come with a comprehensive map of the Southern Africa region, covering South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia, with maximum detail stored on the internal memory, provided by TeleAtlas/MapIT.

Truly compact and portable, the TomTom ONE comes with a 3.5 inch touch screen LCD, while the TomTom XL boasts a 4.3 inch widescreen LCD, for those who prefer a larger display. TomTom’s unique Map Share™ technology will allow users to instantly make corrections to the map on the device and share these with other users.
