TomTom partners with Zurich Insurance in the UK

London, 01 April 2008 – TomTom, the world’s largest navigation solutions provider, and Zurich - one of the world’s largest insurance companies - today announced a partnership to encourage drivers to think about safety and security.

As TomTom’s navigation devices and Zurich’s insurance products are both based on the idea of security and service, the arrangement will benefit customers of both companies.

Zurich is offering TomTom owners £50 in M&S vouchers when they buy car insurance from the company – and a 10% discount on the cost of their insurance if they buy online. The offer is valid in the UK, and runs until 31 May 2008.

For drivers who currently do not own a TomTom, Zurich is offering a promotional price of £179.99 for the TomTom ONE XL Europe Traffic portable satellite navigation system – a saving of up to £50, when they sign up for a new insurance policy on the Zurich web site.

Research conducted by leading independent Dutch research agency, TNO, has shown that TomTom drivers feel more relaxed and less stressed when driving with a satellite navigation device. The research also illustrates that TomTom owners benefit from increased awareness, a reduced workload, and less time and distance travelled when getting to their destination. About the research
Three elements were used to determine the answers: a user survey entitled “What are the effects of navigation systems on traffic safety?”, damage database analysis, and test drives. The research programme was conducted in The Netherlands over a six months period and was completed in December 2006. The generic findings of this study prove that satellite navigation solutions have a positive effect on driving safety.
