Amsterdam, 27 April 2007 – TomTom, the world’s largest portable navigation solutions provider, today announces it is sponsoring the European Red Cross Road Safety Campaign 2007-2008. This partnership confirms TomTom’s continued commitment to improve road safety. Additionally, it follows the recent publication of independent research that proves that navigation has a positive effect on driving behaviour.

TomTom will be supporting events and activities in nineteen countries across Europe that engage and educate people on the subjects of road safety and first aid practice. The European Red Cross Road Safety Campaign will collect, generate and share best practice tools for road safety and first aid education. It will specifically aim to:

  • provide increased European visibility for road safety issues
  • collect good practice and proactively share this throughout Europe by producing a first aid and road safety resource pack
  • encourage individuals and organisations to pledge support to improve road safety.

“We are natural partners to the European Red Cross Road Safety Campaign as safety is a key priority for us” says Alexander Ribbink - chief operating officer TomTom. “ The Red Cross is a highly reputable and well-established organisation. Educating people on road safety in Europe through this partnership with them is an important mission that we wholeheartedly support.”

The European Red Cross Road Safety Campaign will be launched today during the UN Global Road Safety Week in Brussels. Please visit www.1-life.info for more information on the European Red Cross Road Safety Campaign.
