TomTom VIA: Smart navigation for daily drivers!

~ Bluetooth hands free calling and TomTom’s superb mapping and routing make the TomTom VIA the must have GPS ~

Auckland, 15 October 2010 – TomTom announced today the availability of the new TomTom VIA range in the New Zealand market. The TomTom VIA range features the best of TomTom’s navigation heritage, with best and latest maps, IQ Routes™, and a multitude of other navigation smarts.

The TomTom VIA range delivers a brand new software package with an even easier to use user interface as well as Bluetooth hands free calling, making this premium GPS feature accessible to more New Zealand drivers.

“We are excited to introduce the new TomTom VIA range to New Zealand drivers. TomTom VIA brings hands free calling, long enjoyed by our GO users, to daily drivers for the first time, without compromising quality and convenience,” said Chris Kearney, VP Marketing, TomTom Asia Pacific. “From the superb Advanced Lane Guidance and hands-free calling, to the market-leading IQ Routes™ for the fastest way, any time of day – the TomTom VIA range delivers everything drivers may need for a truly effortless driving experience.”

Superior Maps

All TomTom VIA models contain the latest GeoSmart map of New Zealand. TomTom’s Latest Map Guarantee ensures that if a new map becomes available within 30 days of first use, every user is entitled to download the latest available map free of charge.

TomTom releases four maps each year: Summer (Nov), Autumn (Feb), Winter (May) and Spring (Aug), ensuring TomTom users can always drive with the latest map.

Best Directions

TomTom IQ Routes™ uses billions of speed profiles, contributed by TomTom drivers, which give a detailed view of road speeds every minute of the day, every day of the year. IQ Routes™ enables the TomTom VIA to route drivers the fastest way, any time of the day.

Advanced Lane Guidance clearly shows which lane to take at junctions so drivers won’t miss their turn. On the most difficult highway intersections, a realistic 3D representation of the junction keeps drivers relaxed and safe.

Park assist helps drivers locate the closest parking station to their destination, minimising travel times.

TomTom VIA features Bluetooth hands free calling, enabling drivers to keep focussed on the road ahead. Safety Cameras, which alert to fixed speed and red light camera locations on the road ahead, help drivers to stay safe and relaxed. The Help me! Menu gives easy access to assistance and direct dial through to help when on the road.

Ease of Use

The superb new navigation software and user interface delivers seamless ease of use. The brand new integrated foldaway mount easily attaches to the windscreen and, using the optional dashboard mounting disk, allows drivers to turn the device 180 degrees – a sensor flips the screen automatically the right way up.

The TomTom VIA 160 comes as a superb 4.3” touch screen and the TomTom VIA 180 boasts a huge 5.0” widescreen. Both models sport a brand new design with brushed aluminium casing and a diamond-cut screen bezel edge.

Pricing and availability

The TomTom VIA 160 and TomTom VIA 180 will be in high demand this Christmas, with the new products set to hit shelves in October and November. Pricing will be announced in the coming month.
