Map Share technology allows you to make changes to the map on your GPS device or report map changes online. Many of the changes made on your GPS device instantly improve your routing and can also be shared with the Map Share community of 21 million users.

The FREE Daily Map Changes that you receive from the Map Share community include these more dynamic and frequent changes on the road:

• Changed speed limits
• New street names
• Blocked roads
• New traffic directions
• Altered turn restrictions

New changes become available every day and you simply need to connect your device to your computer as often as you like to give your map a boost.

What changes can I make and receive?

There are a number of different map changes that can be reported either directly on your device or via our online Map Share reporter tool. These are all fed back to our map production teams and are dealt with as part of ongoing improvement projects. There are, however, a selection of changes that will be applied directly to the map on your device and these are also the changes that can be shared with the Map Share community:

• Changed speed limits
• New street names
• Blocked roads
• New traffic directions
• Altered turn restrictions

How to get going with Map Share

To take full advantage of Map Share, and to start making, sharing, and receiving your FREE Daily Map Changes from the TomTom Map Share community, this is all you need to do:

• Agree to join the Map Share community on your device when prompted. This is usually part of the initial device setup or can be found in the Map correction settings on your device.

• Ensure you have a recent map.

• The latest TomTom application for your device (available for free through TomTom HOME).

• Map Share currently supports all maps released within the last 12 months.

• As an improvement to the service, the latest maps (version 8.85 and newer) will be supported for the life of your device. Find out more

• Ensure you have MyDrive or TomTom HOME software for your computer (available as a free download). Find out which you need for your device.

• Ensure you have the latest free TomTom device software on your device (this will be offered in MyDrive or TomTom HOME if available).

• Remember that new changes become available every day and you simply need to connect your device to your computer as often as you like to give your map a boost.

Selecting a level of trust

When you join the Map Share community, you are asked to select a “level of trust” for the map changes you receive. For example, you might decide that you only want to receive changes that have been verified by TomTom. Alternatively, you might be happy to accept changes that have been submitted by some or many Map Share community members.

This gives you control of the map corrections you receive on your device.

Availibility of Map Share on specific devices

If you have a TomTom VIA 1605 you can start downloading FREE Daily Map Changes from the Map Share community starting May 31, 2012, whenever you connect your device to your computer. When you first connect, you will be offered a software update along with FREE Daily Map Changes to get you started. Starting at the end of May 2012, you will also be offered the latest quarterly TomTom map to download for free as part of the TomTom Latest Map Guarantee.

Starting at the end of June 2012, FREE Daily Map Changes from the Map Share community will also become available for the following devices:

• GO 800, 1000 and 2000 series
• Via 1000 series

Map Share continues to be available for older TomTom GPS devices that use TomTom HOME rather than MyDrive to download the FREE Daily Map Changes.

Our online Map Share Reporter gives you a simple way to report changes to TomTom maps. It lets you report changes for a wide range of map features from your computer.* With the Reporter, you can do more than when reporting errors on your device:

Your reports are really important to us, and we take time to review each one carefully. Now, with Map Share Reporter, you can check on our progress. See at a glance when we’re working on your report. And find out the moment your report has been accepted. 

What does it mean when my report is accepted?

Once we've verified the suggestions you make in your report we will update our map database. This is when we’ll change your report status to “report accepted.” It may take some time for the change to appear on our online maps and in a map update for your device.
